My Story
Thank You for your interest in Compendium Therapy. I'm hoping to
offer a multi-faceted resource on a variety of issues.
My life changed in 1998 when a rock climbing accident offered me a
dramatic learning opportunity. A devastating ground fall left me
with a new perspective, in addition to metal screws and plates to
rebuild my left leg, mountainous medical bills, and a million
questions about everything that was happening to me.
Months later I had battled back from the physical injuries only to be
confronted with post-traumatic symptoms manifesting in bi-polar
episodes. Weaning from pain pills after the lengthy healing prompted
a further emotional breakdown. There were also resulting financial
and personal adventures to contend with.
How I'd wished later that there was an option like Compendium when I
was rehabbing. I had so many questions about insurance, emotional
problems, healing after surgery, and general turmoil that went
unanswered because there was nowhere to turn for a wide range of inquiry.
I don't purport to have all the answers, but I've certainly learned
some lessons along the way that I hope to convey. These can help
before, during, or after an injury. In life, people often suffer an
emotional, physical, or financial injury. How we prepare and deal
with the consequences often will determine how successful the outcome
of the rehabilitation. I've been through these and more and want to
share what I've learned about getting better.
For instance, when I was in the midst of some dark times, most of my
therapists only offered medication, not emotional or mental
strategies to deal with my chronic pain and pursuant depression. I
want to offer these options and more to people in need.
Whether it's accessing your lifestyle goals and working to do your
best to maintain it in the face of injury or other challenge; or, if
you're already in rehab and needing knowledge and reassurance of
someone who's "been there", I'm able to bring a unique and caring
perspective to the situation.
This is my chance to give something back after needing to learn so
much during my own recovery. I hope my time spent teaching skiing
and climbing these last 30 years can help me to convey some of those
difficult lessons and answers as they relate to your life.
Namaste and best wishes
Mic Fairchild
